Changes to UniCafe lunch prices as of 1 January 2026

The meal subsidy for higher education students and the maximum price of student meals will increase as of 1 January 2026.

As a result of these increases, the prices of UniCafe’s student and postgraduate student lunches, as well as lunches at the normal price, will rise. There will be no changes to staff lunch prices. The new prices can be found at the end of this article and in all UniCafe restaurants and digital channels as of 1 January 2026.

As of 1 January, the meal subsidy will be EUR 2.80. In addition, the pricing of student restaurants is regulated by a Government Decree, according to which the maximum price of a subsidised student meal will be EUR 5.90 and the maximum price of a special meal will be EUR 8.70 as of 1 January.

“Price increases are necessary so that we can continue to offer students healthy, affordable food prepared from high-quality and responsibly sourced ingredients. From the perspective of students’ livelihoods, it is extremely important that the meal subsidy was also increased,” says Anne Immonen, Director of Restaurant Business at Ylva.

According to an estimate by the Finnish Hospitality Association (MaRa), industry costs increased by 7.3% in the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025 following the previous adjustment of the maximum price.
