Four UniCafes open all summer – lots of delicious new products coming this autumn
UniCafe will be open for service on all four campuses this summer. The UniCafes open all summer are Biokeskus, Chemicum, Kaivopiha and Meilahti.
You can enjoy your lunch at the cafe or take it to go, and the selection will include small sweet treats, snacks and refreshing drinks.
If you are planning a picnic, why not pick up a sandwich or baguette, fruit and a cold drink?
Take a summer trip to a different campus
Have you visited all the four UniCafes that are open all summer? Stop by at a UniCafe for a treat on a summer’s day.
You could begin your summer tour at Biokeskus, where you can enjoy a lunch accompanied by fresh bread baked at the restaurant with organic flour, followed by one of the sweet treats from the restaurant’s bakery. Chemicum, on the Kumpula campus hill, has a great selection of foods.
You could drop in at the baguette bar for lunch in Kaivopiha, where you can choose your favourite fillings and have your sandwich toasted like a panini. There are plenty of good reasons to come to Meilahti: it serves UniCafe classics and a wide range of cafe foods.
UniCafe will revamp its lunch menu over the summer
UniCafe restaurants share a common lunch menu with over 300 options. The lunch menu undergoes a major refresh once a year, as well as smaller updates throughout the year.
UniCafe’s product development team has been working on new lunch options since the start of the year and has piloted them this spring. The final pilot products will be available at selected restaurants this summer, and a new lunch menu will be introduced at every UniCafe restaurant at the start of the autumn semester.
The new lunch menu includes about 80 entirely new products, as well as some old favourites. The new products will include vegan, fish and meat options.
Perhaps the most hotly anticipated new dish is the Mexican baked sausage, which you might have heard referred to as the “mekuma”, and its vegan equivalent. There will also be new bowls, individual products requested by customers, familiar homely foods, and dishes that combine bold flavours and spices. There will also be some comfort foods, including nachos baked with pulled vego.
The new items also reflect food trends such as marry me, Korean cuisine and miso, taking diners on a flavour journey to different food cultures, from Korea to Japan, Mexico to Turkey, Spain, Thailand and the Middle East.
At the start of the autumn semester, you may find the following new foods on the lunch menu: a bibimbap bowl, Turkish pasta, quorn bolognese, beetroot and pulled oat casserole, mini-meatball stroganoff, lentejas (a Spanish-style organic lentil stew) and a chicken gochujang pasta bake.
See you at UniCafe!
