The Baltic Sea on your plate

On Baltic Sea Day, 27 August, we will celebrate our sea by serving fishballs made from rutilus roach. When roach are fished, the eutrophication nutrients locked up in the fish are removed from the water system.

Scan the QR code on the UniCafe table talker or click here and take the Baltic Sea Quiz. We will donate €0.50 to the John Nurminen Foundation for each quiz entry, up to the first thousand entries. Everyone who takes the quiz will be entered into a prize draw. Two lucky winners will each receive a week-long lunch package at UniCafe (5 lunch vouchers). The campaign will run from 24 August to 4 September 2026.

63% of the eutrophication potential of our restaurant business is in the Baltic Sea drainage basin. In 2024 and 2025, we donated a total of €11,000 to the John Nurminen Foundation’s work on the Baltic Sea. Our donations help to reduce nutrient loading in the Baltic Sea by means such as soil stabilisation with gypsum and the nutrient cycle.
